Chemical designation | CuZn10 |
Etching | Messingätzmittel |
Brass alloy with 10% Zn content. The microstructure is single-phase (up to approx. 36% Zn content). The hardness is 61 HV0,1.
Zn causes solid solution strengthening. It has very good cold formability (bending, stamping, punching) and is suitable for soldering and welding.
With increasing Zn content, the strength improves at the expense of conductivity and ductility. CuZn10 has a low susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking; Stress relief annealing is highly recommended when used in NH3 atmosphere. The price of the alloy decreases with increasing Zn content. Applications include architecture, stamped and deep-drawn parts, haberdashery, jewellery, cosmetics packaging, electrical engineering components and general mechanical engineering and building services.
