The microstructure is very fine crystalline. The light grey phase is Co-rich, probably a silicide, but contains too little Si for the nearest known phase Co2Si.
Very high strength values are achieved in the age-hardened state (Rm <=1300 MPa). The wrought alloy exhibits good temperature resistance, at low temperatures down to temperatures down to approx. -200°C as well as at high temperatures up to approx. 350°C and a high wear resistance. Applications include springs of all kinds, diaphragms, wear-resistant parts, non-sparking and non-magnetic tools, moulds for plastics processing.
The measured hardness is 254 HV0.3.
