Carbide-rich hard facing (18% Cr, 6% Nb) on a excavator bucket of 1.1165. The microstructure contains NbC and M7C3 primary carbides in M7C3 austenite eutectic. A soft interlayer has been omitted, and the lighter zone on the right (perhaps an arc strike) is merely remelted and finely solidified. The cracks in the hard facing do not continue into the base metal.
