Stress corrosion cracking on brass screw connection CW601N | CuZn35Pb2 | C34200

This pure α-brass was bolted in the area of a drinking water pipe (cold). Stress corrosion cracking occurred after some time. The hardness is 120 HBW2.5/62.5, slightly above the maximum allowable value of 110 HBW. Sliding bands can still be seen on the inside of the tube. The increased tensile stresses may also have been caused by the bolting.
