This hypoeutectoid steel (bar material with cross-section = 10 x 10 mm) with 0.06 % carbon (measured with OES; nominal: 0.07 – 0.13 %) was austenitised at 950 °C for 30 min, quenched in water and then tempered at 250 °C for 2 hours.
The microstructure consists of bainite with isolated ferrite and martensite grains. Due to the too low carbon content, a completely martensitic microstructure could not form.
Condition:
- 950 °C / 30 min – 250 °C / 2h / air
- Core hardness 193 HV0.5
