This hypereutectoid steel (sheet material with cross-section = 3 x 20 mm) with 0.82 % carbon (measured with OES; nominal: 0.8 – 0.9 %) was austenitised at 810 °C for 30 min, quenched in water and then tempered at 250 °C for 2 hours. The microstructure consists entirely of tempered (cubic) martensite both at the edge and in the core.
The average core hardness is 688 HV5.
