This hypereutectoid steel (bar stock with ⌀ = 16 mm) was austenitized at 840 °C for 30 min, quenched in oil and then tempered at 150 °C for 2 hours. The microstructure consists of (coarse) martensite with finely distributed, brightly shining carbides. At low magnification, a slightly network-like structure is still visible.
The core hardness averages 780 ± 4 HV1.
