The microstructural images show a high-speed steel produced by powder metallurgy after hardening (+QT). This was tempered once at 650 °C to document the microstructure formation in a tempering series. The microstructure is very fine-grained with typical carbide precipitations.

The etching time with 3% Nital was 90 sec.
