Nitriding at approx. 370 °C does not lead to chromium nitride precipitation in the diffusion zone and therefore (in contrast to conventional nitriding processes for stainless steels) has no negative effects on the corrosion resistance. A diffusion zone is therefore not visible even through etching. The compound layer is only a few µm thin. The microstructure contains pronounced delta ferrite lines and many golden titanium carbonitrides.
