The micrographs show the core structure of the case-hardened steel. It consists of martensite and bainite. Due to the alloying elements, this steel hardens further and achieves a higher core hardness (strength) than the classic 16MnCr5. The core hardness is 312 HV0.5 20 mm below the surface.
