Inconel 718 is a high-temperature forging alloy that γ‘‘–strengthens. In addition to various carbides, σ-phase can also form here. Etching was performed with a modified Inconel-718 solution. The precipitation of acicular δ-phase at grain boundaries and in grains (see here Figs. 8-11) is extremely undesirable. The cause often lies in excessively long holding times during heat treatment. The nominal chemical composition is:
C 0.04%
Cr 19.0%
Fe 18.5%
Nb 5.1%
Mo 3.0%
Al 0.9%
Ti 0.9%
