Age-hardenable American wrought alloy characterised by good machinability and corrosion resistance, here in as-cast condition. In addition to the typical primary alpha-AlFeMnSi precipitates in Chinese-script form, Mg2(Sn,Si) with only 2-4 at-% Si as the second intermetallic phase. In normal aqueous microsection preparation, it corrodes violently, whereby Mg is dissolved out and primarily tin hydroxide remains, which appears blue-grey to black under the light microscope. In anhydrous preparation it appears brown.
The hardness is 48 HB2.6/62.5.
