This wear-resistant CuZn alloy uncharacteristically exhibits a pure β microstructure. Even after overetching, no twins (α phase) were visible. Locally, α phase is suggestively visible on grain boundary spandrels. The hardness is 165 HB. The high wear resistance is achieved by the intermetallic phase Mn5Si3.
