EN AC-42200 | AlSi7Mg0,6 (T6) Sand casting, vibration corrosion cracking

The component made of refined sand casting was cracked on the test bench, but not broken through. The crack surface shows the typical feathered structures, superimposed with fatigue striations. The crack exit was located in a cross-sectional transition (here on the left), the crack propagation in the pictures is from left to right. The corrosive part of the crack propagation was probably caused by water traces in the oil. The small blowholes are simply passed through by the growing crack.
