Widely used extrusion alloy, often used where strength requirements are not high, e.g. for profiles in windows, doors or car bodies.
While NaOH attacks the interfaces of the precipitates and hardly any grain boundaries become visible, the grain structure develops during electrolytic etching according to Barker, which then becomes visible in the polarising filter.
